Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said that the Black Sea and Eastern Mediterranean regions should remain a region of peace and cooperation.
Groshko added, in an interview with Russian journalists in Athens yesterday, that Russia is concerned that Greece will not be drawn into the geopolitical game aimed at curbing and containing Russia.
"We call for the Black Sea region and the eastern Mediterranean to remain a region of peace and cooperation, and all efforts must be made for that," Groshko said. He pointed to "the existence of regional dimensions, the policy of containing Russia."
He said: "We are now witnessing intense attacks on the regional security system in the Black Sea region, including NATO decisions to increase the period of presence of groups of warships there, as well as attempts to question the Montreux regime, which for decades was a reliable guarantee of stability and security in this region, as well as Plans to equip and re-equip the fleets of Bulgaria and Romania, and the attempts to annex Georgia and Ukraine. This path increases the chances of confrontation in this region. "
